Defeat to Tipperary on Sunday means Galway are still on the hunt for their first All-Ireland title since 1988.

On the Sunday Game, Ger Loughnane showed that conveyor belt of young talent in Galway is not the problem. Since 1983, they more than match Kilkenny in terms of underage success. It is at senior level where the deficiencies lie. Loughnane didn't have many answers for why Galway continue to fall in the final straights of the Championship. One factor, which many have cited before, is the hotly contested club scene in Galway. Loughnane reasoned that the 'bitterness' felt between clubs prevent players from gelling on the county panel.

Loughnane himself spent two seasons in charge of Galway. It was this time - the 2007 and 2008 Championships - which Tomás Mulcahy used to bait Loughnane.

The Clare man mentioned Galway's All-Ireland final record since 1975.

Since '75, they've been in 15 All-Ireland finals - big games like today. Now many of them, they weren't the better team. But some games, like today, they were the better team and didn't win. They've only won three of those 15. There has to be a reason they're losing so many.

Mulcahy, for no reason other than an attempt to rise Loughnane, asked about his time as Galway manager.

I've only got one problem with that stat, Ger. You never put in the two years that you were up there.

That was followed by a little wink to Michael Lyster - watch out for it at the 55 second mark below.

When the camera cut to Lyster, his desire to hide his amusement was obvious.
