Tony Kelly scored an incredible equalising sideline cut point to take the Munster hurling final between Clare and Limerick to extra-time. Limerick eventually won the game 1-29 to 0-29 following the additional 20 minutes.

Just moments before Kelly's equaliser, Limerick captain Declan Hannon had given his side a one-point lead with an inspirational score from midfield.

Then Shane O'Donnell forced Barry Nash over sideline giving Clare one last opportunity to grab an equaliser. Kelly had scored 10 points at that stage of the game. Though, he had been taken off frees with Peter Duggan given the responsibility. Duggan had also scored a point from a sideline earlier in the match, creating the feeling that maybe he should be the man to strike the ball.

But it was Kelly who stepped up to hit the score which resulted in both sides running from the pitch to prepare for another 20 minutes.

"If this was a shot to win it, and he did it, it would be an unbelievable score, but this was a shot to save the day - way more pressure," Donal Óg Cusack said on RTÉ's coverage of the game.

"A sideline ball, the whole Limerick crowd here behind us willing the ball wide, you couldn't make it up. it's Roy of the Rovers stuff."

Anthony Daly said: "He'd been taken off the frees. Peter Duggan took over the frees, gave an exhibition. Peter Duggan scored a sideline in the first half. I'm there, 'Duggie, Duggie, hit that', and I'm overruled by the Portroe man here beside me (Liam Sheedy), 'No, it's TK's side'. Great call, and what execution.

"I'll always remember a quote from Ger Loughnane. He said, 'This is the stuff your father and your grandfather told you about, this is the Munster championship'. By God, we've got it in spades here. What a game.

"The two leaders, Hannon and Kelly came up with the massive plays. It had it all, that second half."
