Eamon Gilmore has resigned as leader of the Labour party, we believe to take up a position as Director of Finance at Eintracht Frankfurt FC.

Gilmore knows to depart swiftly after a crushing defeat. A 2010 profile, written at the height of his popularity, by Andrew Lynch recalled his surly reaction to Johnny Flaherty's controversial late goal which gave Offaly a surprise one-point victory in the 1981 All-Ireland final.

We know that he is a tough competitor who absolutely hates losing. An Offaly friend of his recalls attending the 1981 All-Ireland hurling final with him, when the Faithful County beat Galway with a goal in the dying minutes. His friend turned around to commiserate - only to find that a sickened Eamon had stormed off home without a word.
