In an incident believed to be the first of it's kind, business student Keith McCann decided to steal an umpire's uniform from Croke Park and was spotted wearing it in a nearby street while drunk. He later caused criminal damage to the front door of a house in Ballybough Street.

The Irish Independent's Andrew Phelan reports that McCann has pleaded guilty to stealing the uniform on 25 July last. The 20 year from Sean MacDermott street was drunk when he decided to take the uniform. He co-operated fully with the investigation and has no prior criminal record. His barristers argued the incident was entirely out of character.

The judge struck out the charges on the basis that a charitable donation was made.
