Kiskeam's Anthony Casey probably won't sleep tonight, and you'd have to feel for him.

With just two minutes remaining in the Under-21s All-Ireland final in Ennis this afternoon and the sides all square, the Cork goalkeeper misjudged a short kickout and gifted the ball to Mayo's Conor Loftus.

Loftus, who held his nerve to land the free which put Mayo in the final at Dublin's expense, pounced on his opportunity, keeping his cool before slamming the ball past Casey in the Cork goal with a thunderous finish. And that, for all intents and purposes, was all she wrote.

That's not for a second to suggest Casey was totally at fault for Cork's demise today; the short kickouts were clearly sideline orders, but even aside from his error, Cork's defenders will be asking themselves all sorts of questions.

Leading 0-7 to 0-4 as the clock went red at the end of the first half, the Cork shipped two goals and a point in first half stoppage time which gave the game an entirely different complexion going into the break.

Mayo added a fifth goal, too, after Loftus' late strike, with Liam Irwin producing an innovative punched finish. Ultimately, it was a deserved victory for the merciless young men from the west.

No pressure on the seniors this year, then.
