What's at Stake?

It's round one for Derry and Monaghan in the All-Ireland football round-robin with both sides joining Clare and Donegal in group four. Donegal beat Clare last weekend meaning a win for either side this weekend keeps them level with Donegal.

Form Guide

Derry topped division two before losing to Dublin in the final. However, they picked themselves up and went on to win the Ulster championship on penalties against Armagh beating both Fermanagh and this Monaghan team en route to the final.

While they'd looked like serious Sam Maguire contenders during the league, Dublin's relatively comfortable final win killed a lot of that momentum. However, a statement performance on Saturday would certainly show that they have what it takes.

Monaghan on the other hand have struggled this season, they just about avoided relegation from Division one with just three wins from seven. They did bounce back with a stunning and courageous win to knock Tyrone out of the Ulster Championship, but ultimately when they met Derry in the semi-finals they simply couldn't keep up losing by five in the end.

Derry are the definite favourite here and as things stand it's very difficult to see anything but another win over their Ulster rivals for Derry.

Team News

Derry

Ciaran Meenagh has named another strong team for this weekends clash with Monaghan. Conor Glass and Brendan Rogers will be a force to be reckoned with, while Monaghan will have their work cut out for them curtailing Paul Cassidy and Ethan Doherty up front. Conor McCluskey and Chrissy McKaigue both start in defence, where somebody will have to take responsibility for Conor McManus.

Monaghan

Monaghan aren't looking to give Derry any help as they name a 26-man squad as per the new rules, without a starting lineup. Vinny Corey's squad is full of fresh young faces while Ryan McAnespie returns to the Monaghan squad as does Darren Hughes. Whatever team starts one thing is certain Conor McManus will be as dangerous as ever and if Derry want to win he'll have to be contained.

That's all the info you need on how to watch Derry v Monaghan in the All-Ireland Football series.
