While it has become a controversial topic, Mayo goalkeeper Rob Hennelly has become the latest big name to transfer clubs.
Having reached four country finals with Breaffy, Rob Hennelly is set to join Dublin side Raheny. The move will see him link up with Dublin stars Brian Fenton, Brian Howard and Sean McMahon, so he won't be short of options at kickouts.
Hennelly has been living in Dublin for almost a decade, so it doesn't come as a huge shock that he has made the decision to play for the Dublin club. He will be a massive loss to his old side Breaffy, with his shot stopping and free-taking and 45's vital for club and county.
Among the big name players that he played with at Breaffy are Aidan O'Shea and Matthew Ruane, as they were defeated in the 2020 final by Knockmore in their last final appearance.
Rob Hennelly Set For Raheny Transfer
Having come in for heavy criticism in some difficult spells for Mayo, Rob Hennelly has turned a corner with Mayo in recent years, becoming one of their most reliable players.
After the retirement of David Clarke, Rob Hennelly has been Mayo's number one choice as goalkeeper since. While he did not feature last night in Mayo's thrilling draw with Galway, it's likely he will take his place as goalkeeper later on in the season.
Knockmore goalkeeper Colm Reape was between the sticks for last night's game.
Raheny will hope that the transfer of Hennelly can give them a needed boost, as they survived relegation from Senior 1 Football when they defeated rivals Clontarf in a relegation play-off.
Despite their hugely talented squad, they haven't hit the heights they would have hoped in recent years. With one of the best goalkeepers in the country between the sticks, it could give them the platform to challenge against the very best in the county.
