There's An Irish Team In The Celebrity FIFA 20 World Cup And We're Class

A few weeks back we decided we'd crown the Premier League champion for 2020 by pitting all the managers against each other in a Money in the Bank ladder match on WWE 2K. The result was marvellous but the process of making all the managers was extraordinarily time consuming. So when we saw that SonageGaming had made individual players for 16 teams of celebrities to play in a Celebrity FIFA 20 World Cup we could tell he was both a genius and a mad man!

The concept is simple; he has made 16 teams from various nations, packed with their biggest celebrities, alive or dead, and sometimes not even entirely real. Each team also gets one actual football legend. There are four groups of four and he's simming all the games on FIFA 20. How he's managed to pull this off is beyond me. The time it must have taken. The dedication. At least he can sleep well in the knowledge that it was absolutely worth it.

The great news is that there's an Ireland team in it and we're bloody deadly. We've been drawn in a group alongside Greece, Italy and all of Scandinavia. In the opening match against Scandinavia this is how we lined out:

What a team. The mighty Father Ted in goals, behind a back four of Bono, Oscar Wilde, Terry Wogan and Louis Walsh. The midfield is Mrs Brown, Youtuber Jacksepticeye, Roy Keane and Conor McGregor, while up front it's Dara Ó Briain and the former WWE leprechaun character of Hornswoggle. Leo Varadkar is the sub goalkeeper, with Joe Brolly, one of the Corrs, Niall Horan, Liam Neeson, Bob Geldolf and Graham Norton on the bench alongside him.

In the opening game we had to contend with the likes of Thor, Greta Thunberg and all four members of ABBA in the Scandinavia team. Skip to 14:09 to watch the highlights of the game.

3-2 Ireland. What a victory! Two goals from Hornswoggle and the winner from Ó Briain was a joy to behold. How Hornswoggle outmuscled Thor for that second goal we'll never know but if he keeps up this form we could go all the way! Meanwhile Ó Briain is just happy to get all three points on the opening day.
