Sam Kerr and Kylian Mbappe have been as announced as the cover stars for FIFA 23. The latest instalment of the popular EA Sports game will be revealed on Wednesday.

Kerr's inclusion on the cover of the ultimate edition of the game is historic, as the Chelsea forward becomes the first woman to ever appear on the cover of a FIFA game.

The Australian has won the WSL golden boot twice in a row and has also been Chelsea's top scorer in the past two seasons. The talented striker has netted over sixty goals in that period including a memorable wondergoal against Manchester United to seal the title on the final day of the season in May.

FIFA 23 Cover Revealed

Mbappe, who is reportedly the highest rated player in the game, will feature on the cover for the third successive year. Only Lionel Messi (4), Ronaldinho (4), and Wayne Rooney (7) have featured on the cover more times than the Frenchman.

Back in May, Mbappe signed a new three-year contract to keep him at Paris Saint-Germain until 2025, with the French league champions managing to retain his services despite significant interest from Real Madrid who reportedly nearly had a deal over the line.

David Platt and Piotr Swierczewski were the first ever cover stars for an EA Sports FIFA video game back in 1993. Wayne Rooney, who went onto to appear on seven successive covers of the game, appeared for the first time for FIFA 06.

Messi appeared on the cover of FIFA 13, making four appearances in a row. Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo has only featured on the cover twice for FIFA 18 and FIFA 19.

Fans will get their first look on Wednesday. It is expected that cross-competition play will be possible for the first time in the series history allowing players on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC to face off against each other.

The World Cup mode is also expected to return following its inclusion in FIFA 18.

FIFA 23 will mark the final year that the game is produced by EA. The game will be renamed EA Sports FC next year, but it will retain all of the game's biggest leagues, clubs, and players.
