Going right back to our childhoods, there was always the PlayStation vs Xbox debate. Everyone had their own preference, but more often then not you would just go with whatever console the other people in your friend group had.

The reason for that was fairly straightforward: so you could play online together.

Up until very recently, you could only game online with those who used the same platform as you. That has been slowly changing, with a number of titles introducing 'cross-play' in recent years to allow those on different consoles to play together.

Of course, with FIFA being one of the most popular titles to play online, fans of the game have long been calling out for it to be introduced.

Well, we have some good news.

FIFA 23 to introduce cross-play to franchise

EA Sports have announced that cross-play will be included in FIFA 23, allowing those on next gen consoles to play against gamers on both PlayStation and Xbox.

Cross-play will be available in 1v1 game modes on FIFA 23, such as Ultimate Team or online friendlies.

This is sure to be a massively popular addition to the series, with fans now being able to pit their squads against each other.

In a statement, EA Sports said:

Electronic Arts Inc. today revealed EA SPORTS™ FIFA 23 and the next evolution of HyperMotion2 technology, setting a new standard in realistic and immersive gameplay on the pitch.

FIFA 23 will feature women’s club teams for the first time with the inclusion of the Barclays Women’s Super League and Division 1 Arkema at launch, extending its position as the world’s most authentic football experience.

Players will also be able to experience the pinnacle of both men’s and women’s international football in FIFA 23 with the men’s FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ and FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023™ as post-launch updates at no additional cost.

Cross-play features will also connect and engage football fans like never before, and will be available across multiple online game modes in FIFA 23.

For the first time in the FIFA franchise, you won't be limited by your console choice.
