For better or worse, there is no doubt that the Grand Theft Auto franchise has shaped generations of gamers ever since the release of the original game back in 1999.

Since then, the title has continued to increase in both complexity and quality with each passing release. Of course, we have now been waiting a decade for a new game for us to sink our teeth into.

Thankfully, we might not have too much longer to wait. The trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI will finally be released on Tuesday, December 5th.

With that in mind, we have decided to look back at one of the aspects of the game that made many of us fall in love with it in the first place.

We are of course talking about the cheats.

The funniest Grand Theft Auto cheats

In our younger days, many of weren't all that interested in actually following the storylines in the Grand Theft Auto games. Our main goal was to make our way across the map causing as much havoc as possible, something that was always helped by having a handy cheat sheet on hand.

For those who aren't aware, pressing a certain sequence of buttons would give you major boosts in the game, relating to anything from weapons, cash, vehicles, or your wanted level.

Many of those cheats were fairly standard additions to your playing experience, although others were a bit more out there.

Take the below video from Grand Theft Auto: Vice City as an example. Among the cheats included is one that starts a riot among the general public, as well as one to allow you to drive on water.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas had some equally brilliant cheats.

The flying car cheat was always a favourite, as was the one to give every drive in the game road rage, which usually resulted in a pile up of cars and a shootout in the middle of the road.

Cheats were not as commonly used in GTA V in comparison to other editions of the game.

However, you could still knock a bit of fun out of some of them such as the invincibility one.

A classic.

It will be interesting to see how commonly cheats are used in the new Grand Theft Auto release, but considering that so many gamers are looking forward to taking a trip down memory lane in the game, you can be sure they will have a part to play at some point.
