The Game Awards 2023 took place yesterday, with the favourite Baldur's Gate 3 beating out Spiderman 2 for Game of the Year.

The fantasy RPG has received rave reviews since for Windows in August, and picked up a total of six awards on the night. Alan Wake 2 also enjoyed a successful evening, picking up three awards, including Best Game Direction.

The Game Awards 2023 Comes In For A Rake Of Criticism

However, the ceremony was severely criticised for its lack of celebration of game developers, with the focus seemingly more centred on celebrity appearances and various other aspects. IGN noted that of the 3 hour show, only 30 minutes were dedicated to awards.

There was also a rather distasteful moment when the Baldur's Gate 3 creators were in the middle of their victory speech and commemorating a member of the team who had died during development, when the 'Please Wrap It Up' sign flashed up on the screen.
