Insane Fourth Quarter Settles Bizarre Tune Squad And Monstars Contest

Insane Fourth Quarter Settles Bizarre Tune Squad And Monstars Contest

It was a match that had far reaching consequences that no basketball match has ever had before. Players on the Tune Squad and Monstars would have been forgiven if they allowed the occasion to effect their play.

What we got was a back and forth battle for the ages.

We urge you to watch the highlights of one of sport's greatest moments as we'll be detailing it ad nauseum below.

The Tune Squad were lead by Michael Jordan, a three-time NBA Champion and three-time NBA MVP. At the outset, his supporting cast was made up of octogenarian rabbit Bugs Bunny and handlebar moustache model Yosemite Sam.

The Monstars, who stole the basketball skills of several NBA stars before tip-off, started with a bastardised trio of Muggsy Bogues, Larry Johnson and Patrick Ewing.

The first quarter of action set the tone for the remainder of proceedings. Both sides came out of the blocks with run and gun offences, aiming to get down the floor and score as quickly as humanly (or alien-ly?) as possible.

The Tune Squad were led by the play of Jordan and Bugs Bunny, both utilising their shooting skills to great effect. For the Monstars, all their play went through the diminutive Bogues, who sliced through the Tune Squad defence time and again to dunk the ball.

However, it was Larry Johnson who produced the moment of the first half for the Monstars. He drove the ball down-court on a fast break and managed to snatch the soul from Yosemite Sam with an almighty dunk.

However, the moment of the first half came at a rather innocuous time, with Michael Jordan being fed the ball from out of bounds. Rather than dribble up court, the Tune Squad star launched a full-court shot which went in to the dismay of the crowd.

The Tune Squad went in at the break 47-44 up, but complacency was an issue that they needed to be acutely aware of.

With that, Yosemite Sam was off,  and the spark plug that is the Tasmanian Devil came on.

For the Monstars, Larry Johnson was taken off for the defensive stylings of Charles Barkley, the Round Mound of Rebound.

In the second half, it was much of the same. The two teams shared buckets throughout, with the Monstars doing their damage in the paint and the Tune Squad stepping out and shooting from mid-range.

The defence of Barkley and Ewing gave the Monstars some momentum, with a couple of blocks stymying the Tune Squad attack and leading to easy points at the opposite end.

By the arrival of the fourth quarter, the Monstars were increasingly wary of the Tune Squad's shooting habits, which led both MJ and Bugs Bunny to step outside the three point line.

These defensive plays culminated in several points given up due to goaltending calls, with Barkley and Ewing unable to time their block attempts.

Muggsy Bogues stepped up of the offensive end, pouring in bucket after bucket to keep the Monstars in the game. However, a Bogues turnover with just 30 seconds remaining nearly cost the side dearly. However, the Tune Squad couldn't capitalise and the Monstars managed to take an 89-88 lead through Barkley.

However, the MJ and Bugs show was still rolling.

Jordan, one of the most clutch performers in NBA history, decided to hand responsibility over to Bugs Bunny to nail a three-pointer.

Just like John Paxson for Jordan's Chicago Bulls in the 1993 NBA Finals, Bugs delivered.

91-89. 14 seconds left.

The Monstars, as they'd done all day, put the ball in the hands of Muggsy Bogues. Rather than play out the shot clock to take the last shot, Bogues sprinted up the court and got an easy two points.

91-91. 8 seconds left.

The Tune Squad had plenty of time to find a shot, and their patience paid off. Jordan passed the ball into Taz, who dribbled around his man and waited for the right moment to find an open man. He spotted Bugs who was immediately swarmed by Monstars defenders as he caught the ball.

Nevertheless, Bugs Bunny rose up over the defence and sent the ball home.

93-91. 1.6 seconds left.

The only thing the Monstars could do was heave the ball from the backcourt, which they did through their talisman Bogues. It hit the rim, but fell away. With that, so too did the chance of a Monstars victory.

Despite Muggsy Bogues' 60+ point outing, the Monstars couldn't defeat the defiant Tune Squad. A lack of outside shooting, coupled with the imperious form of Bugs Bunny and Michael Jordan, made it an uphill task for the extraterrestrial terrors.

It was a match for the ages, and one that we won't be forgetting any time soon.
