Sony unveiled the new Playstation 5 on Thursday evening in a pre-recorded launch, finally revealing the console's design and some of the games we can expect when it's released later this year.
The PS5 can stand vertically or sit horizontally under your TV or monitor but we'll talk more about the design in just a second. What we need to discuss first is the graphics and hugely reduced load times that gamers will enjoy on the new console. These features are perfectly exemplified by the teaser for NBA 2K21 that was featured in Thursday's launch.
It starred New Orleans Pelicans' Zion Williamson and let us tell you folks, you have never seen computer generated sweat in such high definition.
Other games that featured in the launch include the likes of:
- Gran Turismo 7
- Horizon Forbidden West
- Resident Evil 8
- Spider-Man: Miles Morales
- Demon's Souls
- Grand Theft Auto 5 enhanced
- Project Athia
- Solar Ash
- Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
- Hitman 3
The trailer for Spider-Man: Miles Morales also looks pretty stunning.
They also squeezed in a cyptic teaser for a game called "Stray," where you play as s mystery solving cat. Of course you do!
The PS5 will come out in two versions, the standard console and a Digital Edition that will not have a disc tray. Sony also showed off some accessories that included a headset and HD camera that matched the PS5's colour scheme. The console's design sparked an immediate deluge of memes that we've been thoroughly enjoying ever since.
