It's safe to say that Mesut Ozil's time at Fenerbache has not been as successful as his stints at other clubs. Picking up where he left off in north London, the former Real Madrid and Arsenal playmaker was axed from the first team after an argument with interim manager Ismail Kartal in March.

The 33-year-old joined the Turkish side back in January 2021 after falling down the pecking order under Mikel Arteta's side and despite scoring 9 times in his 37 appearances at the club, new manager Jorge Jesus has said that he will not play anymore as he has "had his time".

During his 7 seasons at the Emirates, Mesut Ozil became a fan favourite and won 3 FA Cups, bringing an end to a nine-year wait for a trophy for the Gunners.

Mesut Ozil and his new career

With two years still left on his contract at Fenerbache, Mesut Ozil's agent Dr. Erkut Sogut has revealed that his client will turn his attention to professional gaming.

Speaking to the Telegraph about the future of Mesut Ozil, Sogut said;

"I think he will not play football in any other club any more. I can't see that – it will be Fenerbahce and that’s it.

"He will go more into esports, play himself and maybe become an esports athlete. He’s really good, to be honest, at Fortnite and I think one day I wouldn’t be surprised if he is competing. He owns a team – M10 Esports – and he has players. He has a gaming house in Germany. He has football, like Fifa, and Fortnite."

Ozil has over 175,000 followers on his Twitch channel which he launched back in 2018 and but Fenerbache announced last Thursday that he and teammate Ozan Tufan had been excluded from the side.

With Esports and the professional gaming world growing year on year, a figure with the reputation of Mesut Ozil will only help grow the industry even more in what has to be seen as a huge plus for Esports.
