Since the release of Gaelic Games 2 way back in 2007, GAA fans have been crying out for a video game featuring our national games.

Despite the Playstation 2 game having its flaws, there was something amazing about being able to playing for your county on the biggest of stages, while sitting on your couch in front of the television.

It's been a wonder for fans that games developers haven't jumped at the chance of creating an improved version of the mid 2000s classic that was Gaelic Game 2.

The graphics and in-game play may have not been up to the required standard to stake its claim among the great Playstation games of its time, but the overall idea combined with the top tier commentary from none brings other than Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh brings back great memories

Thankfully, a new video game is on its way and it's likely to impress and excite fans.

GAA: How Is The Video Game Being Made

The people at Buck Eejit Games have been hard at work trying to create a new video game for GAA fans. They've been keeping fans up-to-date with the development of the game on their TikTok page, and this week they've answered a whole host of questions about the game.

First of all, while the company haven't released an exact date that the game will be released, they have confirmed that it will be out some time in 2024.

They've also said the game will feature only gaelic football, though there are plans for a hurling game.

Currently, all counties in the country are included in the game, but there is also an option to create your own teams and players. That means you could create yourself, playing for your own club team, wearing your own club colours, and then take to your console and see how good you are in game.

The Belfast-based game developers have used motion capture to enhance the experience of gamers. This means, players in the game will be able to move as efficiently as someone in real life.

Specialised cameras, sensors and markers were used in the making of the game. A real life subject then runs around in a motion capture suit to make sure the gameplay will be as human-like as possible.

Using software, they then process data from the cameras to track positions of the markers , which is then processed to make a digital representation of the models movement.

The data is then mapped onto a 3D model..

They've also released a video explaining which stadia will be involved.

Buck Eejit makes it clear the game is 'work in progress' but the work so far is fascinating and we're hugely excited to see the finished product.
