In case you are already bored with your PS5 and Xbox Series S/X new generations consoles, Microsoft have given an indication when the next generation will come out.

Microsoft are currently in the middle of a legal battle with the United State's Federal Trade Commission, with the FTC attempting to block Microsoft's purchase of the publisher of the Call Of Duty franchise, Activision Blizzard.

Legal documents from the court case, which began this week, show that Microsoft expect the next generation of consoles to be released in 2028:

This term would in any case go beyond the expected starting period of the next generation of consoles (in 2028).

Thus, Call of Duty will be published on successor PlayStation consoles should one be released during the term of the agreement. The agreement also would ensure that Call of Duty console games are offered on PlayStation at parity with Xbox.

Stephen Totilo who writes for Axios Gaming, has provided an update from Sony's side, and tweeted that if Microsoft do indeed acquire Activision, then Sony will not inform Activision about their next console:

"In an FTC v MS/ABK deposition, PlayStation chief Jim Ryan said that, if deal closes, Sony couldn't tell Activision about its next console.

"Is then asked about Sony working with Mojang (Minecraft) after MS bought them. Discussion is redacted but Ryan says it supports this concern."

The current generation of consoles were released in 2020, seven years after the PS4 and Xbox One, so a release date of 2028 for the next gen would seem plausible.
