There's One Irishman On Forbes' List Of The Highest Paid Athletes In The World

Rory McIlroy made $24.3 million this year according to Forbes magazine. Those earnings put him at 35th on their list of the highest paid athletes in the world.

McIlroy made $4.3 million in winnings with the majority ($20 million) of his pay coming through endorsements. Earlier this year, he came in 17th on The Sunday Times list of the wealthiest people in sport in Britain and Ireland.

Top of Forbes' list in terms of pay is boxer Floyd Mayweather who made $105 million, with Cristiano Ronaldo second on $80 million and LeBron James third in $72.3 million.

Some other notables on the list are Zlatan Ibrahimovic (12th $40.4m), Gareth Bale (14th $26.4m), Wayne Rooney (43rd $23.4m), Fernando Torres (63rd $21.3m), Robin van Persie (81st $19.5m) Steven Gerrard (86th $18.7m) and Luis Suarez (100th $17.3).
