Team Europe and Team USA face off against one another this weekend in the 2023 Solheim Cup, as the best female golfers in Europe and the US go head-to-head in a dramatic matchplay tournament.

Leona Maguire inspired Team Europe two years ago and Europe are seeking a third-consecutive win in Spain this weekend.  Here's all you need to know about the tournament including the players involved, tee times and where to watch.

Team Europe got off to a horrible start on day one of the Solheim Cup as they set out to claim an unheard-of third Solheim Cup victory. Team USA dominated in the opening foursomes.

Leona Maguire and Anna Nordqvist came close to gaining a point for Team Europe after birdieing the 16th and 17th holes. However, their match against Nelly Korda and Allisen Corpuz soon came to a disappointing end as they were unable to birdie the par-five 18th to keep the match alive and gain a point.

Team USA finished this morning's session 4-0, making it the first time in the event's history, that either side has accomplished this.

What is the Solheim Cup?

This year's tournament will take place at Finca Cortesin golf course in Andalusia, Spain.

The tournament will commence on Friday, September 22nd and run till Sunday, September 24th.

Where to watch

Sky Sports Golf will be showing the tournament live. You can also stream the tournament on the SkyGo app.

Are there any Irish players involved?

Leona Maguire will be the sole Irish player participating in this year's Solheim Cup.

Maguire played an instrumental role in Team Europe's victory last time around. Her performance alone inspired Team Europe to record their second Solheim Cup victory.

Maguire was selected as a captain's pick by Catriona Matthew in the 2021 Solheim Cup, with Maguire quickly earning the MVP of the tournament against all of the other top-class golfers on display.

Maguire who was and is still the first Irish woman to play in the Solheim Cup, proved to be a diamond asset for Team Europe.

In 2021, Maguire displayed an unbeatable performance, registering four wins and a halved match. She was also the only play from either Team Europe or Team USA to feature in all five sessions.
