Darren Clarke has already been officially named the European Ryder Cup captain for 2016 when the competition takes place a Hazeltine in Minnesota.

The US choice is not official yet though several media outlets reported this week that Davis Love III would once again captain. Love captained the US when they lost dramatically to Europe at Medinah in 2012.

One golfer not impressed by the mooted choice is Padraig Harrington, he was one of Paul McGinley's vice-captain's for Europe's victory at Gleneagles.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said:

It's interesting, it looks like they [PGA of America] have chosen a friend.

I'm surprised they didn't go back to Paul Azinger. I know Davis did a great job but it does look like they've gone for the guy they like. . . I'm not saying they don't like Paul Azinger but maybe Paul turned it down.

He [Davis Love III] was a good captain but when you let the inmates run the asylum sometimes that's what they come up with.

The "asylum" to which Harrington is referring is a task force which was established to assist the US regaining the trophy. Love is part of that task force.
