Golfers aren’t generally known as the most exciting sports people. We usually admire golfers for their skill on the course rather than their charisma off it. So when someone does something out of the ordinary they almost instantly jump to the top of the interesting golfers list. One way to get noticed is to dress unusually and some players have gained a reputation for dressing quite extravagantly on the course.

They have eschewed the usual boring colours and thrown on burnt orange, luminous yellow or solid gold. These players are better known for these outfits than the trophies they’ve won and when you see their on-course attire you will understand why.

Stewart dressed like the founding fathers of golf and had success to rival some of them but like the fact we don’t use the same clubs as old Tom Morris did, we should leave his fashion sense in that era as well.

Luckily for Poulter his Ryder Cup heroics have partly covered up some of his uglier outfits. The solid gold shirt is up there with his worst.

Rickie Fowler

I’m not saying his jumpers were nice, because they weren’t but his bicycle hat was the real fashion faux pas.

This affront to the eyes is possibly the worst thing ever worn on a golf course. Although I’d say Payne Stewart loved every minute of that tournament.
