A number kept popping up in commentary throughout the Players Championship at Sawgrass. 24, that was the percentage of fellow professionals, anonymously polled by Sports Illustrated, who had named Rickie Fowler, along with Ian Poulter, as the most overrated players on tour.

Fowler really showed two fingers to that poll with his performance in the 'fifth major'. Five shots down with six holes remaining, the American caught fire and eventually won The Players after a playoff involving Sergio Garcia and Kevin Kisner. Fowler and Kisner could not be separated after three holes, and so, Garcia eliminated, the two head back to the 17th for sudden death at one of the sport's most recognisable tests.

Kisner's tee shot landed 12 feet from the hole. Up stepped the joint most overrated man in golf to stick his shot to within five feet. Kisner missed, Fowler did not.

Would he have won the tournament with the extra fuel? Who knows?
