Alex Ferguson is enjoying the liberty provided by retirement.

Judging by an interview with the BBC, he's also enjoying the complimentary bars which come with being a wealthy individual who is able to attend events like the Ryder Cup and the US Masters.

Fergie was in Augusta at the weekend to see his fellow Brit Danny Willett take the green jacket from Jordan Spieth.

Willett's victory was fortuitous. It was facilitated by a Spieth collapse. A quadruple bogey on the 12th sent the American from five-under to one-under. Willett was there to take advantage.

When Spieth's mishap occurred, Fergie was in a perfect position to see Willett's reaction.

A somewhat tipsy former Man Utd manager related his memory of the moment.

I was on the 15th when there's a rumble about. The scoreboard had gone up 'Spieth five to one' and the excitement was unbelievable.

I looked at Danny Willett and he was on the 16th tee and he goes to the toilet - unbelievable.

That's a fantastic moment because he's only got his own thoughts in that very moment he goes to the toilet. He's on his own - what was he thinking about? Fantastic.

It's a moment which will surely receive a dedicated chapter in the next update of his book.

Fergie was actually in the company of James Nesbitt - a man not unacquainted with being a little inebriated on television.

When it comes to gambling, Fergie doesn't have patriotic allegiances. He had £8,000 on Spieth to win back to back Masters and told so to Danny Willett when he met him afterwards.
