Former world number one golfer Greg Norman was incredibly lucky to have avoided severing his arm in a chainsaw accident this weekend. A few hours ago Norman posted a picture to instagram  showing a heavily-bandaged left hand.

"Working with a chainsaw ALWAYS be respectful of the unexpected. I was one lucky man today," he wrote. "Damaged, but not down & out. Still have left hand."

In a phone interview given to the Associated Press a short time age, Norman said:

Thank God the blade wasn’t running full speed or it would have taken my hand off.

I handled everything as calmly as I could. There is no major damage. There is nerve damage, but no muscular damage. They fixed me up and here I am.

I just didn't expect when I posted that Instagram that (the story) would explode like that.

Norman said he would use the equipment again.

When I'm on a ranch, I love to run the bulldozer, the grader, whatever. I like doing stuff. I never ask anybody to do that for me if I can do it myself.

A week ago, he posted this picture of himself doing some trimming work. The caption read: “Time to trim the sea grapes today. Never ask someone to do something that you can do yourself. Love to work!”

A real fans' favourite in an exciting era for golf during the 1980s and '90s, the Great White Shark won two Open Championships and an agonizing seven second place finishes across the other three majors. Here he is in happier times, doing what he did best.
