Hunter Mahan withdrew from the Canadian Open after leading through two rounds yesterday after his wife Kandi went into labour. Mahan was 13 under through 2 rounds and had yet to start his 3rd round when he released this statement:

"I received exciting news a short time ago that my wife Kandi has gone into labor with our first child, Kandi and I are thrilled about the addition to the Mahan family and we look forward to returning to the RBC Canadian Open in the coming years."

First prize for the tournament was a hefty $925k but one can assume that didn't enter Mahan's mind. Cynics will suggest he doesn't need the money and it wasn't much of a decision anyway but there have been plenty of instances of sports stars living up to the macho stereotype and putting their profession before their family. So fair play to him.
