Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has ruffled a few feathers in the golfing community this week as he claims to have cracked a near 500-yard drive while filming on the set of his HBO show 'Ballers'.

The Rock took to his Instagram account to tell his 81 million followers that the 'scientists with the rules' had estimated a drive at 490 yards, just 25 yards short of the world record that has stood since 1974.

Johnson even went as far as to claim that he will break the record one day.

A bit of fun for the former WWE Superstar perhaps, but many in the golfing community aren't quite buying it.

TMZ Sports had an interview with the larger-than-life John Daly, and he kindly told them that he doesn't believe it would be possible, despite The Rock being strong enough to do it.

Well I think to hit it 500 yards I've got to know if he hit a sprinkler or a cart-path.

I'm saying it's highly unlikely, because I've seen the biggest and baddest drivers in the world that can hit it almost 400 yards, and if he can hit 490 straight he needs to get on the PGA Tour.

You look at the long-drive champions, you know, they're hitting it 390, I think one time it went over 400 yards, so.. I'd have to see it to believe it.

He's strong enough to do it. If I had that body I'd be hitting it 490 yards myself, but in my mind, I don't work out, I put out.

I'd have to see it to believe it, I can't believe he hit it 490 without hitting a sprinkler or a cart-path. Look at this body right here, I don't need to look like him to hit it 300 yards, OK? So my message to The Rock is; I definitely would love to play golf with him and see if he can hit it 490 yards.

But more importantly I'd love to meet him because I love him as an actor, I think he's great.

Make it happen!

John Daly was the subject of an ESPN 30 For 30 documentary titled 'Hit It Hard', and if you've not seen that then you really should make time to learn of his remarkable story. He's a character for sure, and if anyone was going to call out The Rock, it's right that it should be Daly.
