It was a brilliant day for Irish golf fans at the JP McManus Pro-Am in Adare. Upwards of at least 35,000 people arrived in the Co. Limerick village to watch the best golfers in the world and quite a few celebrities tee off. One of the curiosities of the first round is that three-time major winner Jordan Spieth was disqualified from the Pro-Am.
Those unfamiliar with the tournament might have been surprised that scores were kept at all. Yes, there will be a winner, it just won't be Spieth.
On the 14th hole, Spieth picked up a gimme putt, as his team approached the green, forgetting that his score was counting on professional table.
That brainfart meant he was DQ'ed from the pro's tournament.
Despite being eliminated from the individual event, Spieth continued to play for his team.
He was playing alongside the South Liberties team who sit T-30, on -11, 11 strokes off the lead.
The tournament is being played in the Shamble scoring format, which is a version of Texas Scramble. You can read the rules here.
Xander Shauffele is atop the JP McManus Pro-Am professional's table, having shot a blistering 64. Seamus Power is best of the Irish on -3.
Tiger Woods spoke to the media about what makes the tournament so special.
"We don't get a chance to see some of our brethren over here on the European Tour. They do come over to play in the majors, but this is a totally relaxed atmosphere.
It's all about about charity, having fun, and doing something for the local communities.
What JP has done over the years has been truly remarkable. We're here to support him."

Spieth has been having a decent time in his brief trip to Ireland before arriving at the JP McManus Pro-Am.
He played Lahinch on Saturday with Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns and a few goats.

He was then at Tralee on Sunday with Justin Thomas and Rickie Fowler and sampled a beverage or two.
