People of Offaly unite, Mullingar is trying to claim your favourite son.

Clearly sick of being associated with Joe Dolan and Niall from One Direction, Bressie, John Joe Nevin and a whole host of other names - they have tried to lay claim to Clara's own Shane Lowry.

Legendary Northern Irish golf commentator David Feherty was the culprit who revealed the plot at Doral yesterday. Feherty was showing viewers of the year's first World Golf Championship Lowry's brilliant set-up for an eagle saying "Shane Lowry, from Mullingar in the midlands of Ireland", in that familiar Northern Irish / American hybrid accent that has also claimed Graeme McDowell as one of it's victims.

It's a fiendish thing to say from Feherty, but hold on that was an outrageous shot. 313 yards to there. I couldn't do that from 31.3 yards.

Props to Mullingar's Clara's Shane Lowry.

*There may not be any plot from Mullingar to claim Shane Lowry
