Watch: Padraig Harrington Gets In The Mood For The Olympics With Storming Finish At US PGA

There are fewer better occasions in Irish sport than watching Padraig Harrington on the charge on the final day of a Major Championship: when Harrington starts grinding out birdies to find the groove he gets a kind of irresistible fire in his eyes, one of the finer sights in Irish sport.

Unfortunately, Harrington is just out of contention for a second US PGA title, but has turned in a marvellous weekend performance. Owing to various rain delays, the leaders finished their third rounds while Harrington began his fourth.

The Irishman has followed up yesterday's scorching 65 in some style, shooting a 68 to leave himself at six-under and in a tie for ninth position.

 

This was the highlight of a fine round by the only Irishman to have made the cut, somehow ghosting towards the hole despite an absolutely hideous lie:

It could have been even better for Harrington, this effort on the fifth skipped agonisingly past the  hole. (Note the continued cultural imperialism of GAA jerseys on American golf courses):

What a man.

Harrington may break the Top 10 but will end up a few shots off the lead, unfortunately. That said, he is well primed for the Olympic Games. Here's hoping we see those fiery eyes in Rio.
