It's the sort of storyline that Eastenders, Fair City and Coronation St would have rejected for being too unrealistic, but strange things are happening around Australian golfer Robert Allenby.

To recap - back in January he claimed that he was mugged in Hawaii, but the police denied this saying there was no evidence to support this claim. Then last week he was involved in a strange situation where he fired his caddy mid-way through a round. Allenby claimed that his caddy Mick Middlemo was being abusive and threatening. Then other caddies who witnessed the altercation appeared to call into question Allenby's version of events.

Now, Middlemo has had his chance to speak out. The out-of-work caddy has chosen to go all the way back to the Hawaii incident to set the story straight - Allenby was never mugged.

Do I think he got mugged and bashed and absolutely robbed? No I don’t. That’s the story I told because that’s the story he told me to tell because I wasn’t there.

Do I think he just fell over and cracked his head? Honestly I do… I think he fell over and someone picked up his wallet and had a great time with his credit card.

Middlemo says he covered for Allenby originally because he wasn't there - but thinks it's all lies.

Allenby's response to Middlemo?

I don’t have any response, mate. I have zero comment. That’s it.

Does anyone else know what's actually going on?
