Rory McIlroy decided to grace residents of the Republic with his presence and his fine china yesterday, as he helicoptered in Pope John Paul 2-style to Ballyliffin Golf Course on the Inishowen Peninsula to film an advertorial for sunglasses sponsor Oakley. The Donegal Daily captured the Beatles-esque fanfare for the arrival of the Northern Ireland golf hero and his rather presidential cortege (open-top jeep). The Plain People of Ireland who lined up for autographs and photographs were disappointed, though they would happily welcome back to their humble, bankrupt state. Presumably the Donegal golf course was chosen because its aesthetics exceeded anything on the northern side of the border.
