Rory McIlroy's 2023 Masters hopes were over fairly early into is second round yesterday, after leaving himself on four over par after just seven holes.

The goal then changed to making the cut but still he never looked in control, and went out weakly with two bogeys in his last three holes.

The popular No Laying Up podcast, who are big McIlroy cheerleaders, did not hold back in their assessment of his performance, with Neil Schuster criticising his lack of fight.

Rory didn't show up.

I thought yesterday's round Rory dug it out a little bit and was able to keep it at even and in year's past he would have given up, and I felt like today that's exactly what he did.

The par putt on 16, I went back and watched the replay ... it was fucking awful. It was just not good golf today. Yesterday, I felt he was battling, and today, I felt he kind of waved the white flag and I hate that.

Rory's round kind of looked like those trees coming down today, I mean there was no stopping the fall today. Yesterday he was able to arrest the fall and today it got out of hand early and it didn't stop.

"It sucks. There was a complete lack of pride," added fellow host 'Tron' Carter.

"At some point, after the front nine, it's like, 'I'm going to buckle down, go two or three under on the back and try make the cut. And he didn't do that at all. He kinda just packed up his shit and left."

Shane Lowry and Seamus Power are now the sole Irishmen left heading into the final two rounds.

Lowry has completed his delayed second round in the last 20 minutes, shooting level par to remain on four under and in a tie for 10th.

Power also shot a round of level park to leave him on one over and alongside Tiger Woods in a tie for 40th.
