Europe: Ryder Cup champions. Has a bit of a ring to it.

Luke Donald's team were absolutely terrific throughout the event in Rome, ultimately running out a 16.5-11.5 winners at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club.

Nobody seems to enjoy the Ryder Cup as much as Shane Lowry. His emotional celebrations over the last few days were some of the most memorable moments of the event, even when he was cheering on other members of the European team.

The Offaly man spoke recently about how he had built his entire season around the Ryder Cup. Having made the team, he certainly made the most of the experience.

Shane Lowry leads European Ryder Cup celebrations

His match with Jordan Spieth was a remarkable watch, with the momentum going back and forth between the pair. The American led for most of the early portion of the day, although Lowry would fight back brilliantly on the back nine.

The Irishman was one hole down standing on the 17th tee, going on to win the following two holes to take a lead down the 18th. At that stage, he knew it would be enough to guarantee the Europeans took hime the trophy.

Party time had very much already started as he made his way to the 18th, even if he still had a hole to play.

By the time the players reached the green, it was game on.

As always, Shane Lowry was the life of the party.

Speaking to Sky Sports afterwards, he said that this had been the best week of his life. He also hinted at the celebrations that were to follow.

This is a dream come true for me, it's something I always wanted to achieve in this game... It's been the greatest week of my life...

We'll see what the wife says (about the celebrations). I'm heading back to Florida tomorrow, so I might try and drag Rory out for a few days.

We get the feeling he will make the most of it.

Himself and the rest of the European team certainly deserve it after reclaiming the Ryder Cup.
