Shane Lowry has a chance to get his first tour win since The Open in 2019 as he share the lead heading into the final round of the Cognizant Classic in Palm Beach, Florida.

Lowry shot an impressive 66 in the third round to reach -13 for the tournament and a share of the lead with Englishman David Skinns and American Austin Eckroat.

The Clara man started off his round on fire, scoring birdies on three of his first four holes. His iron play got him into good position to birdie the first, followed by a two-putt for birdie on the par 5 third hole. To keep the hot streak going Lowry hit a mighty 20 foot putt on the fourth for birdie and a tie of the lead.

Pars followed on the next three holes before Shane Lowry had a scare on the eighth hole. He hit his tee shot into the penalty area, meaning he would have to drop a shot. He miraculously was able to get the ball onto the green and he held his nerve to par the hole, saving himself from what could've been a disastrous score.

Another birdie on the par 5 tenth followed as Lowry was on fine form in Florida. A bogey on the thirteenth wasn't enough to derail him as he finished off his round with two birdies on the par 4 sixteenth and the par 5 eighteenth to enter the clubhouse with a share of the lead.

Shane Lowry's History In This Tournament

Shane Lowry was in a similar position in this tournament two years ago when he lead for most of the final round before the rain halted him from winning, giving the victory to Sepp Straka. Speaking about what happened back in 2022 Lowry doesn't seem to let his history effect him.  "I always say golf never owes you anything. I came up short that day. I've come up short before. I've been on the better end of things before. You just go out there and do your best and what will be will be sort of thing."

The Cognizant Classic is a home tournament for Lowry as the course is very close to his home in Jupiter, Florida. When asked if staying at home has helped him so far this week Lowry revealed a familiar name has been keeping him company. "It's nice staying in your own bed and having your family around. We've been chilling out. Padraig Harrington is staying with me.

It's nice hanging out in the house in the evenings and having a good time and then going to the course and playing some golf. It is a lovely week, and I see some familiar faces. I've been fortunate enough to make a good few friends around here, and to see familiar faces in the crowd is always pretty nice."
