Defying earlier talk that we would see a classic pre-election giveaway budget, fresh rumours have cropped up that Michael Noonan is ready to target sport as an area where cuts can be made.

From removing Sky Sports from the common room of Mountjoy Prison to forcing the GAA to manufacture more draws a range of policy options have been floated.

Golfers aren't going to like the proposals. It is understood that Westport United are being protected from any cuts.
