The torturous wait to find out who will be Second Captains crew will be working for is over. After two months of intrigue, many deserved tributes and countless fawning articles, the lads have revealed today that they are to join the Irish Times with a weekly hour-long show that will be uploaded every Tuesday and available to be streamed or podcasted from Irishtimes.com. The first of these shows will pop up next Tuesday.

These initial shows will deal with some of the big events over the next few weeks including the Ireland-England game on May 29th. The entire team, including Eoin McDevitt who finished his gardening over the weekend, will take part in the show.
This is clearly a coup for the IrishTimes.com, and one wonders where all the rumours of the lads taking over at 2FM came from. In terms of creativity, it would seem an hour-long podcast would place certain restrictions on the lads (we assume the half-hour Football Show news round is untouchable, thus leaving a mere 30 minutes to cover the rest of the day's sporting news). Time will tell.

The clutch sentence on the Irish Times story on this seems to be the last one: 'This month, the only place to hear the Second Captains is with irishtimes.com'. It seems this is merely a temporary arrangement, and we are told to expect more from the team as the week progresses so keep your dial tuned to Balls.ie in the meantime..

When the announcement broke on March 4th that Eoin McDevitt, Ken Early, Ciaran Murphy, Simon Hick and Mark Horgan would be leaving the show that they had been together on for so many years, many Irish sports fans were pretty devastated. Where would they now get their weeknightly dose of Ken Early drawing juxtapositions between 'White Fang' and the Premier League, Murph's culchie take on the sports world's goings-on or Eoin McDevitt delving deep during an interview? We have an answer to that question now, but will a podcasted hour-long show cut it for the fans of the cult show?
