The BBC's report on Conor McGregor's TKO victory against Chad Mendes at UFC 189 contained a somewhat curious line.

The second paragraph referred to the Dubliner as being the "first UFC champion from the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland".

The linking of McGregor to the UK got many people on Twitter up in arms.

The outrage forced the BBC to edit the piece.

They first went with "from the United Kingdom or Republic of Ireland" before finally settling on "from the Republic of Ireland or United Kingdom".
