'It’s Something Completely Out Of Left-Field. I’ll Let Conor Announce It When He’s Ready'

Conor McGregor being given a lightweight title shot caused much annoyance within two UFC weight divisions. The lightweight division itself - where many felt McGregor had skipped the queue - and the featherweight division - where the likes of Jose Aldo, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Max Holloway thought their careers were in limbo as they waited for the Irishman to defend his title.

UFC president Dana White had said of late that McGregor would not be allowed to keep his featherweight belt and face lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez. That changed earlier this week when it was confirmed McGregor will face Alvarez on the historic MSG card on November 12th.

Speaking to New York's WFAN Sports Radio, White explained that there were special circumstances surrounding McGregor being given the chance to make UFC history. If he defeats Eddie Alvarez, he will be the first ever UFC fighter to hold titles in two weight divisions simultaneously.

White added that McGregor will make an announcement at some point and that it will be 'completely out of left field'.

I battled this thing forever. Not only is it not fair to Jose Aldo, it’s not fair to Khabib [Nurmagomedov] and Max Holloway. So believe me, I battled with this thing. But there are – how can I say this? There are other circumstances involved in this that will be played out after the fight.

I promise… It’s completely… It’s something completely out of left-field. It’s Conor’s business, it’s not mine, and I’ll let Conor announce it when he’s ready to.

Dana White does have a habit of over-blowing these types of thing and it could again be the case with this.
