They're two vastly different people but the respect between Conor McGregor and Cathal Pendred is obvious. Whereas McGregor has resembled a hurricane sweeping through MMA from the lowest rungs of the ladder through to where he is at the moment, Pendred's rise was rather more steady.
He worked and grafted and rose all the way up to the UFC on the back of that. While his style may not have endeared himself to everyone, you have to respect him for what he's done. Now that he's retired from the sport, McGregor has had a few things to say about his countryman and you have to think some of Pendred's critics were in mind when McGregor shared the following post on his Facebook page.
He may not have been everyone's cup of tea but there's no doubt Pendred did incredibly well for himself. To rise to the top of your sport is an incredible achievement and it's clear with McGregor's words just how much respect Pendred deserves for doing just that.
