Conor McGregor May Just Have Been Given His Most Intimidating UFC Challenge

Rafael dos Anjos has had his say on Conor McGregor's move to lightweight. Anthony Pettis has had his say on Conor McGregor's move to lightweight. Now, the other big name in the division has had his say.

Khabib Nurmagomedov's injury record may be something of a running joke among MMA fans but when The Eagle from Dagestan does make his return to the Octagon, there's not going to be many fighters confident of standing in front of him and coming away with a victory.

He's still at number two in the lightweight rankings but Nurmagomedov hasn't fought for the best part of two years. His last fight was a victory over the now lightweight champ Dos Anjos and it appeared only a matter of time before the Russian would ascend to the top of the lightweight division.

However, his 22-0 winning streak was put on hold by a series of injuries. Quite a few comebacks have been mooted over the past year or so but none have come to fruition. Now however, it seems Nurmagomedov is ready to get back inside the Octagon and although it won't be his next fight, he has his eyes on Conor McGregor some time in the near future.

Speaking to ArabsMMA, Nurmagomedov confirmed that his comeback fight would be against either Nate Diaz or Tony Ferguson in the coming months. After that he'll be fighting for the lightweight title.

According to The Eagle, Rafael Dos Anjos 'has a different fight scheduled'. We're assuming he's talking about McGregor and if the Dubliner comes through that much anticipated fight, there'll be an undefeated Russian waiting for him.

I think Conor is a good fighter but if he thinks he can come to the lightweight division and have a chance of beating me he is delusional.

I’m the worst match-up for him in the UFC. This is why he is trying to move up and fight RDA now. He wants to avoid fighting me. If he comes to lightweight and fights me I will give him a great welcome.

Anthony Pettis made some very good points about the fighters coming out of the woodwork and issuing challenges to McGregor but given Nurmagomedov's record, we have a feeling this challenge may be taken a lot more seriously than some of the others.
