There has been a lot of attention surrounding this season of The Ultimate Fighter after Conor McGregor was confirmed as one of the coaches. The series sees McGregor take control of Team Europe, while Urijah Faber mentors Team USA as the fighters try to earn a UFC contract.

It may be billed as a team event, but on the second episode of the series yesterday - McGregor completely dismissed the idea of allowing bonding for his Team Europe.

While the first episode ended with the teams being named - it began with McGregor's interesting speech presented the reality to the fighters that they aren't friends:

We are all on our OWN journey. Come in here and handle your OWN business.

You are all on your own journey in this, but find comfort with the situation you’re in.

McGregor made it clear that the idea of the show is to build champions, not journey man. It was an interesting tactic to use so soon in a team building event, but it does appear to have brought the fighters together. It gives a greater focus on the end result, while making them realise that they can help each other getting there.
