Conor McGregor Calls Out UFC Rival Company Over Division Collapse

Conor McGregor has come out in criticism of MMA company ONE Championship over their decision to swap their fighter Ben Askren with UFC flyweight Demetrious Johnson.

The move has seen the flyweight division of the UFC called into question, with reports suggesting that the weight class could be scrapped, in the absence of its most dominant champion.

The real kicker for the rest of the fighters in the division is that not all of them may be given the opportunity to make the step up to bantamweight within the company.

Yesterday it was revealed that UFC flyweights Jose Torres and Jarred Brooks had been released from the promotion, with other cuts expected to follow in the division in the coming months, and rather than point the finger at the UFC, the Notorious has instead called out chairman of One Championship Chatri Sityodtong:

You must now take all the 125lbers that have been let go, Chatri. You talk all of this Martial Art and respect talk, yet your greed has directly cost more than half a fighting division it’s chance to earn income for their family.  Have respect. Sign the division.

It seems strange that McGregor is channelling his anger at Sityodtong, when it is the UFC who surely have a responsibly to the fighters on their roster.

Should the UFC fold the division, the released fighters could make the move to ONE Championship's flyweight division, though whether that makes financial sense for the Singapore based company is another matter altogether.
