Dana White Gives Green Light For One Of Conor McGregor's Great UFC Ambitions

In the aftermath of Conor McGregor's featherweight title win at UFC 194, he immediately spoke about one of his most ambitious goals for his time within the promotion.

That was to hold two titles - featherweight and lightweight - simultaneously.

First of all it, would be inprecedented for someone to do this. No one has ever held two belts at the same time in the UFC.

Also, for it to happen, the UFC would have to allow something unusual, McGregor to move up in weight from 145 to 155 without relinquishing his belt in the former.

Speaking on Fox Sports' UFC Tonight, Dana White gave his thumbs up to the plan.

Conor has said he would like to win the 155-pound belt and fight four times a year and defend both belts. If anybody can do it, Conor McGregor can. This guy has done pretty much everything he said he would do so I'm interested.

On the matter of moving weight for a title shot while holding another belt - something which only BJ Penn has done in the past - the UFC president said that while usually this would not be allowed, McGregor is a special case.

That is true, normally I would say if you're going to move up in weight you're going to have to give up the belt, but Conor has done everything he said he would do. He wants to fight, he really likes money, so if anybody could do it, it's probably him.

The question now is, will the Dubliner defend his featherweight title next or get a lightweight title shot?

Last month, John Kavanagh gave credence to the latter option, mainly because he believes McGregor requires a break from making the tough 145 weight-cut.
