Tony Ferguson was crowned interim UFC lightweight champion on Saturday after defeating Kevin Lee via a third round triangle choke at UFC 216.

Ferguson grabbed the microphone from Joe Rogan's hand after the fight to call out Conor McGregor. A unification fight between Ferguson and McGregor is also the one which Dana White believes must happen.

Speaking at the UFC 216 press conference, White dismissed talk of a trilogy fight between McGregor and Nate Diaz being the Irishman's next bout.

Nobody’s talked about Diaz – Diaz has never been talked about. That’s Internet bullshit.

Tony’s the interim champion, Conor’s the champion. It’s the fight that makes sense.

It’s the fight that has to happen – it doesn’t ‘make sense,' it’s the fight that has to happen.

White added that he has 'kinda' talked to McGregor about his next fight. The UFC president disclosed that McGregor does want to fight before the end of the year.

We talked about it, kinda. He wants to fight again this year. He went and partied in Ibiza for a while and went back home for a while.

You've got to let him blow off some steam and then we'll figure it out.

White also said regarding McGregor vs Ferguson, "There's no way it's not a great fight - impossible.
