New lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez had some harsh words for Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz ahead of their UFC 202, labeling the whole thing a circus.

Alvarez knocked out Rafael Dos Anjos on Thursday night, to win the UFC lightweight championship. But the attention immediately began to turn to Conor McGregor in the post-fight conference - with Alvarez saying he wants the easy fight.

Speaking to Ariel Helwani on the MMA hour, Alvarez said he will be attending the McGregor and Diaz rematch in August and had a few harsh words to say about the fight.

I’ll be there with a bull horn on the side of the ring. I’ll be there with a bull horn to that freak show. The highest paid, least best lightweights in the division, highest paid.. It'’s bullshit.

These guys are making dollars, the highest dollars, they’re both considered lightweights I guess, making the highest dollars of all of us.  And you got guys like Rafael Dos Anjos, Donald Cerrone, myself, like top, real top level guys who are on, you know we’re just kind of getting by.

These 2 guys need to be taken our and taken out viciously so we can get some of that money.

Alvarez has a history with Diaz: after the former fought the latter's teammate Gilbert Melendez on his run to the title. He seemed to suggest to Helwani that he doesn't have a problem fighting either McGregor or Diaz, as is not necessarily rooting for one or the other.

Me and Nate almost got in a fight in Mexico. I think Nate got a little emotional because I was fighting Gilbert Melendez and at the weigh in, I don’t know, he does what he does. And I approached him about it and I don't think he like the way I approached him. So we have a small history

And Conor is Conor. Conor is good at the one thing he did and he is. He’s very good at the one thing he’s good at . But this is Mixed Martial Arts, you can’t do that. You can’t do what he does.

You can’t fight Dennis Siver and get a title shot, it’s bullshit. You can't get knocked out by Nate Diaz and then try to fight Mayweather. This has become a circus. What is this? It makes no sense to me.

While it's unlikely we will see Conor McGregor fight Eddie Alvarez given the current situation. McGregor is slated to face Diaz in August and a rematch with Jose Aldo for the undisputed featherweight title awaits McGregor after that. A lot of it will depend on the length of Alvarez's title reign.
