What happens next is the big question for Conor McGregor.
Immediately after his win against Nate Diaz earlier this month, he was calling for another rematch with the 31-year-old. That possibility does not enthuse UFC president Dana White. It might happen in the future, but not anytime soon.
The other options are defending his featherweight belt against Jose Aldo or a lightweight title shot against Eddie Alvarez.
The date for McGregor's first fight against Nate Diaz was initially scheduled to be a lightweight title fight against then champion Rafael dos Anjos. The Brazilian suffered a foot injury and then subsequently loss his title to Eddie Alvarez in July.
In a column for The42.ie following the most recent Diaz fight, McGregor's coach John Kavanagh said his preference would be the lightweight fight. He also said that he envisioned McGregor KOing the champion in the second round.
Mark Henry, coach to Eddie Alvarez, got word of Kavanagh's prediction and hit back sharply on Instagram.
