Conor McGregor proved that he is a legitimate contender for the UFC featherweight belt with a dominant victory over Dustin Poirier at UFC 178.
The Notorious delivered on his promise of knocking The Diamond out cold in the first round to propel himself right into the title frame. McGregor dropped him with a partially blocked left hook and then went to work with some vicious ground and pound. Poirier turtled up taking heavy punishment before the referee intervened to give McGregor the TKO victory.
The UFC featherweight belt goes on the line at UFC 179 next month in Brazil when Chad Mendes will take on Jose Aldo for the title. McGregor could well get the next shot at the world champ after this emphatic performance.
