It's seemed like this fight has been promoted for the last six years, but we're finally at the final straight.  This Saturday, Conor McGregor will finally grace the octagon in the MGM Grand.

It may not be the opponent we thought it would be at the start of this marathon; but the prospect of a McGregor-Mendes bout certainly doesn't dampen the appetite.

With the first fight on the main card not scheduled to start until 3 am Irish time, should you want to watch McGregor live, you'll have to figure out how you'll be conscious for the bout.

How to watch UFC 189:  McGregor Mendes: Option 1

Set an alarm

Also known as the coward's option.

The Notorious Conor McGregor and Chad 'Mini' Mendes probably won't appear until well after the 3 am main card start, and will likely be closer to 5 am.

You have options here. Either rise from your slumber at the beginning of the main card to take in the likes of Robbie Lawler and Rory McDonald, Brad Pickett and Thomas Almeida; and Dennis Bermudez and Jeremy Stephens.

If that doesn't tickle your fancy and you're only in this for McGregor, you can either risk a later alarm time, or make use of the snooze button - checking what fight is on each time before you get lucky.

Stay awake

Also known as the veteran's option.

If you pick this one, it suggests you've done this before. It's probably no bother to you, your body clock is naturally used to the late nights. Either that or you are single-handedly keeping companies like Monster and Red Bull in profit outside of the exam periods.

You are highly anticipating the early prelim fights that start at midnight Irish time, that includes Irish fighter Neil Seery, never mind Cathal Pendred's fight on the prelims.

Go out and come back

Also known as the hero's quest.

You are the king of kings. You have the type of stamina that option 1 takers will be dreaming of when they are asleep.

Firstly, you and your friends will need a domicile of some description to return to where you can turn the television up to what might otherwise be considered 'potentially covering up a murder' volume. This premises will require access to Sky.

We recommend pressuring your unfortunate host to order the fight well in advance of your Saturday night out- in fact, start a collaborative barrage of texts this very instant. We at Balls are in no position to offer advice on alcohol consumption given the infamous Christmas party biscuit-tripping incident of 2012, but just make sure you're back in time to 'settle,' and at least one of you retains the ability to use the Sky remote.
