Nate Diaz is not the most erudite individual in sport. He's entertaining and sometimes you get the sense that there's more there than meets the eye but, with all due respect, his public persona is one of a 'meathead'. He's a fighter who loves a scrap and little else, apart from maybe balloon animals and helping the elderly.
With all that, we were expecting the ultimate war of words in the build up to the fight. Two fighters who'd barely shut up for the week about everything that's lacking in the other. And we've got quite a bit of that but now we've also been given one of the more illuminating (if you're using that word loosely) interviews from any of McGregor's opponents in the days leading up to a fight against the Dubliner.
Diaz was speaking to Fox Sports last night when away from the press conferences and the media scrums, he was given the opportunity to say what he actually thought about the featherweight champ.
The short version is that Diaz 'digs it'. 'It' being everything that McGregor brings to the table in terms of style and the incredible amount of interest he's bringing to the sport.
So how is McGregor going to do at welterweight according to Diaz?
I think he's going to do, I think he will be great... hopefully not against me.
If you didn't like Diaz before, you're going to like him now.
