Antrim's Norman Parke has been released from the UFC.

On his Facebook page on Friday, the man from Bushmills expressed his gratitude to the UFC for giving him an opportunity.

Given that it was April 1st, he also clarified that this statement was not being issued in jest.

I just wanna say a huge thanks to the ufc for giving me the great opportunity to compete at the highest level in combat sports.. Iv had many great memories that will stay with me forever!! Im now looking to fight this summer so what ever comes up il be ready to go!! On any show anywhere..

Thank you to all my fans for following my journey.

The decision to release Parke would seem to be harsh.

He leaves the UFC with a record of 5-3-1. Though those three defeats came in his last four fights, two of them were by split decision.

Overall, the 29-year-old is 21-5-1 in his MMA career.
